William Noel
"Bill" Scoggin
July 2, 1932 – April 13, 2024
William Noel (Bill) Scoggin, 91, of Ellisville, Mississippi, was peacefully taken to be with his Lord and Savior on April 13, 2024, at his residence.
He is survived by three daughters, Janice Lynn Scoggin Ishee of Ellisville, Cynthia Dianne Scoggin Johnson of Ellisville, and Cheryl Denise Scoggin Clark (Sherriel) of Laurel, two granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Clark of Ellisville, and Sarah Lynn Ishee of Ellisville, one great-grandson, Jacob Ryan Kersh of Ellisville, one brother Wilfred. E. Scoggin of Louin. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Ruth (Mollie) McPherson Scoggin, parents Eugene Fredrick Scoggin and Odie Ozella Walden Scoggin, brother Kenneth D. Scoggin, sister Jeanette Scoggin Conlee, son-in-law Stanley Howard Ishee, and granddaughter
Stacey Marie Ishee Crocker.
He was born in Decatur, Mississippi on July 2, 1932, and lived in various places during his childhood. When his family moved to Jasper County during his high school years, he met the love of his life, "Mollie." He joined the United States Navy at age 17 and served during the Korean War. He returned home on leave and married his "Mollie" on April 6, 1952. During his time in the Navy, he participated in Exercise Mainbrace which was the first large-scale naval exercise that involved nine navies from around the world. The exercise was conducted over twelve days in September 1952 and featured simulated carrier air strikes and defense formations to convince nations that a successful defense could be garnered against a potential attack from the Soviet Union. While serving in the Navy as an Aviation Technician, he earned the Medal of Good Conduct. After serving for four years, he received an Honorable Discharge, and he and Mollie returned home and settled in Jones County. He applied the technician skills he learned in the Navy first as a seismographer conducting seismic surveys and then had a successful career working in the oilfield. He became the Regional Manager of AMF Tuboscope and retired after over 30 years of service. During his time, he won multiple awards, including membership in the Green Dragon Brigade that was awarded for his outstanding operations achievement and for exemplifying the spirit of Tuboscope, and he was presented the Million Mile Award that was presented to him for a perfect driving record in a million miles.
He was a devoted and dutiful husband and son, a constant guiding presence in the lives of his children, and a loving grandfather. He was a devout and faithful Christian and served in various ministries in the church. He was a longtime dedicated member of Sandhill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon for numerous years. Prior to joining Sandhill Baptist Church, he served as the Superintendent of Sunday School, served as a deacon, and taught Sunday School at Pine Grove Baptist Church.
He enjoyed farming and gardening, but one of his passions was researching and recording his ancestry. In his later years, he spent many days and hours looking through courthouse records, collecting information and data, locating and visiting grave sites, and contacting newly discovered family relations.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, leaving us more than just memories. He leaves a legacy of faith, love, laughter, witty quips, and his sense of humor that will continue to echo through the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy will live on through his daughters, son-in-law, grand-daughters, and his great-grandson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ellisville Funeral Home on 1204 B Ave, Ellisville, Mississippi.
