Obituary

Robert Douglas Doug Landrum, 73, of Ellisville, MS, passed on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in his home town of Ellisville. He was born on May 31, 1945, in Laurel, Mississippi.

He married his high school sweetheart, Claudette Rae Strange, on January 18, 1963.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Garick and husband Mike of Ellisville, MS; grandson, Nathan Garick and wife Kandyce of Meridian, MS; granddaughter, Christy Harbour and husband RJ of DeKalb, MS; great grandson, Kylan Harbour of Ellisville, MS; brother, Glen Landrum and wife Carolyn of Soso, MS; sister-in-law, Susie Landrum of Ellisville, MS; sister-in-law, Peggy Sudore, husband Joe of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones, husband Donnie of Gulfport, MS; brother-in-law, Charles Strange and wife Diann of Long Beach, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Austin L. Landrum; mother, Mary Frances Whitehead Landrum Sanford and brothers, Austin Laverne Landrum and Rayford Eugene Landrum.

Mr. Landrum completed Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi in Counseling and Psychology. He then remained with the University as the Director of Special Services as well as a professor. He was also manager for Fluor Oilfield Supply; District Sales
Engineer for Share Chemical Corporation; Area Sales Representative for McGowen Chemical Company, Owner of Landrum's Wholesale Meats and the Owner of Landrum & Associates Chemical and Janitorial Supplies. He then became an insurance agent and manager of The Vantage Insurance & Investment Group, Inc.

Baseball was a very important part of his life as he began playing in little league. He continued as a pitcher and catcher of Ellisville High School's four years of undefeated championships. He continued to play semi-pro in Jones County; coaching and then umpiring for 18 years. He was also a Licensed UKC dog show judge and the owner of a championship kennel. He retired in June 2017, after completing 7 terms as the Alderman of Ward 1 of the City of Ellisville. During those twenty-eight years, his heart belonged to his hometown's historical values, educational opportunities, the blessings of churches, continued growth with technology, and progression in planning for future generations.

He was honored throughout his life with many special awards: Who's Who in Mississippi in 1974; Outstanding American in the South in 1975; Outstanding American in the South for the Century in 1980, and inducted into the Mississippi Municipal Hall of Fame in 2009.

He believed with all his heart and total dedication that Ellisville will be and should be a joy for all to call "My Hometown".

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October, 24, 2018 at Ellisville Funeral home from 11:00AM until 1:00PM with a graveside service immediately following at Minter-Anderson Cemetery in
Ellisville. Speaking at his graveside will be a very dear friend and former Mayor of the City of Ellisville, Tim Waldrup.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Garick, Bruce Russell, Ronnie McGilberry, Chris Langley, Billy Ryan and Larry Joe Rogers.
