Obituary

Richard "Red Man" Tilden Abbey, 78 of Ellisville, MS passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Friday, May 18, 1945, in Laurel, Mississippi.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday March 12, 2024, at Anderson Minter Cemetery in Ellisville.  Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-477-3797.

Mr. Abbey worked many years in construction. He was an avid outdoorsman that spent every afternoon feeding and watching over his many pet deer. He loved to fish and had a wealth of knowledge regarding all things outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Dad" Abbey and Hazel E. Watson Strickland; grandchild, Isaiah Pitts.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary F. Bush Abbey; Children, Candace Pitts (Anthony), Gray Abbey (Courtney), Krisha Yelverton (Eric) and Dana Reynolds (Randy); grandchildren, Richard Pitts, Michael Pitts, Mark Pitts, Casey William Yelverton, Jake Abbey, Tasha Reynolds, and Shane Reynolds; Close friends, Larry Loftin, Gary Norsworthy and Keith Sumrall; brothers-in-law, Terry Bush (Evelyn), Bobby Bush (Sheila); sisters-in-law, Betty Hill, Rachel Lester (Ricky) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Tallahala Hunting Club Memorial Scholarship, C/O Jones College Alumni Foundation, Jones Hall 900 S. Court Street Ellisville, MS 39437.
