Pastor James L. Davis, 71, of Ellisville, MS passed away Thursday, April 07, 2022 at the South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS. He was born Wednesday, September 06, 1950 in Sledge, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 09, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Ellisville Funeral Home Ellisville, MS. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Strong Tower Worship Center in Ellisville, MS. Burial will follow in Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery in Soso, MS. Bro. James Strange, Bro. Melvin Shular, Bro. Dan Atkinson, and Bro. Ronnie Luke will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-477-3797
Lamar proudly pastored and served in ministry for over 50 years. He was known for his contagious smile, personality and his unique piano playing and singing. He never met a stranger and was loved by many. He was a great pastor, mentor, friend, brother, husband and father, but his proudest title was "Poppy". He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the entire ICU staff at South Central for their exceptional care during Pastor Lamar's illness. They would also like to thank everyone who has messaged, called or reached out in any way. We love and appreciate you all more than words could express.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Harold Davis; mother, Martha Mae Bradley Davis; sister, Martha Ann Herring.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra Davis; sons, Greg Davis (Sheila) and Chad Davis (Sarah McLuckie); daughter, Charity Busby (Keith); brothers, Eddie Davis, Tony Davis, Darnell Davis and Wayne Davis; sisters, Beverly Luke and Becky Bryant; grandsons, Allan Rittenhouse (Brandi), Cody Davis, Mark Davis, Asher Busby and Daxtyn Busby; granddaughters, Cathy Putnam (Jason), Megan Davis, Madyson Gardner and Baylor Busby; great grandson, Ethan Rittenhouse; great granddaughters, Haven Rittenhouse and Kylee Rittenhouse.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Rittenhouse, Keith Busby, Kevin Davis, Brent Sumrall, Wesley Brumley and Tim Strange.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Gambill and Wesley Gambill.
