Nathan Kent
Mcinnis
June 13, 2025
With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Nathan Kent McInnis, age 20, who left us far too soon on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Nathan was a bright, curious and kind-hearted soul who brought light and laughter to everyone who knew him. Known for his sharp wit and dry sarcasm, he also had a warm spirit, a deep love for animals – especially his beloved dog, Penny- and an extraordinary talent for woodworking. Whether he was building with his hands or listening to music, Nathan found joy in creativity and craftsmanship. He had a rare gift that allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life. Throughout his life, he was surrounded by a steadfast circle of friends whose loyalty and deep affection spoke to the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.
Nathan also carried a deep love and loyalty for his family. They shaped him – and he shaped them – in ways that will never be forgotten. At the time of his passing, he was a student at Louisiana Tech University, with a future full of promise that his family looked forward to watching unfold.
Nathan is survived by Kelly McInnis of Louisiana, who loved him dearly: and Sarah McInnis of Florida. He is also survived by his cherished brother Aaron of Louisiana, his beloved girlfriend Deslyn Smith of Shreveport, his Mammaw, Julie Smith of Seminary, who was his confidant and biggest cheerleader, his grandfather Jansen Overland and his devoted grandparents Judy and Randolph McCloskey of Louisiana, along with paternal grandmother Denise McInnis. He leaves behind a close-knit extended family including his aunts and uncles: Jaclyn (Chuck) Baylis of Hattiesburg, Brittani (Bryan) Wemple of Colorado, Jarrod (Katy) Smith of Laurel, Dylan McInnis and Katherine McInnis; and his cousins Gus, Brylee, Jayden, Landon, and Trulie.
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Cory McInnis; his Pappaw Kent Smith; his paternal grandfather Bruce McInnis; great-grandparents Sarah and Julian Allen and Peggy and Charles Smith; and cousins Ava Harris and his partner-in-crime Brooklyn Smith.
Nathan was a beloved son, brother, cousin, and friend. He mattered. He made our world brighter, fuller, and more beautiful. His absence leaves an ache that cannot be filled, but our love for him will endure always.
