Nagako "Kitty"
Bounds
Oct 16, 1927 — Jul 25, 2026
Ellisville
Nagako "Kitty" Bounds, 98, of Ellisville, MS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at her residence, with her son by her side.
Kitty was born on October 16, 1927, in Tokyo, Japan, to Tatuzo and Hanako Takahisa. It was there she met and married James Hilton Bounds, and made the brave journey from Tokyo to Mississippi to build a life by his side. In Ellisville they made their home, growing a family that now spans four generations. They shared almost 70 years of marriage, always lively with Kitty at the center of it. Her family is richer for every memory and every story that came out of those years.
Above all else, Kitty was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her son and grandkids fiercely. She always said exactly what was on her mind, and that honesty is part of what made her so easy to love. She was a wonderful cook whose meals brought the family to the table for years, and she loved a good phone call, whether she had news to share or just wanted to hear your voice. She never turned down a trip to the casino, and win or lose, she had fun every single time. Everyone who knew Kitty will miss her candor, her humor, and the way she kept life interesting.
Kitty was a member of Ellisville First Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hilton Bounds; her father, Tatuzo Takahisa; her mother, Hanako Takahisa; and her sisters, Reiko, Tomoko, Ritsuko, and Masako.
She is survived by her loving family, including her son, Tony Bounds (Carla); her grandchildren, Lauren McBride (Blake), Wilson Bounds (Ali), Shelby Bounds, and Abbey Crosby (Drew); her great-grandchildren, Mavis, Norah, Elliot, Emmie Evans, JB, Campbell, and Ren; her nieces, Debbie, Mitzi, Martha, Brenda, Mina, and Mika; and her nephews, Dale, Steve, and Eddie.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Teresa Slade, Nikki Garribot, and Josie Pipitone for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Bounds.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Ellisville City Cemetery, with burial to follow. Bro. Mark Anderson and David McGowin will lead the service. Arrangements are under the care of Ellisville Funeral Home of Ellisville, MS.
Pallbearers will be Wilson Bounds, Shelby Bounds, Blake McBride, Drew Crosby, Jay Purvis, and Grant Hedgepeth . Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Colglazier, Steve and Dale Graham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the building fund at Ellisville First Methodist Church.
