Michael Weems McClellan, age 80, of Hattiesburg, MS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Mike was born on October 20, 1944, in Jasper County, Mississippi, to Weldon Price McClellan and Evelyn Weems McClellan. He went to school at Heidelberg High School, class of 1962, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Margie (Bourg) McClellan on December 4, 1966.

Mike attended Jones County Junior College where he played football and ran track, 1962-1964. He was a junior college All-American in football and he would go on to play football and baseball at the University of Southern Mississippi, class of 1966. Mike loved his time at both JCJC and USM and he always gave back to both institutions. He would later serve as chairman of the Board of Trustees for 25 years at Jones and he was active in the M Club at the University of Southern Mississippi. Mike was inducted into the Jones College Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, the Mississippi Juco Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, and the Jones College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2015.

Upon graduating USM, Mike coached high school football in Raleigh, Kosciusko and Bay Springs, Mississippi. He would later return to Heidelberg, Mississippi to serve as vice president of Magnolia State Bank for 40 years.

Mike is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margie; son Scotty (Kandi) McClellan of O'Fallon, Missouri and daughter Suzanne (Jim) Markel of Newnan, Georgia; and four grandsons, Tripp Markel, Owen Markel, Mac Markel and Logan McClellan; brother Billy (Margie D.) McClellan of Heidelberg, Mississippi; nephew Rick McClellan; brother-in-law Renee (Linda) Bourg of Houston, Texas; nephew Christopher Bourg; sister-in-law Marilyn Bourg of Orlando, Florida; nephew Keith Bourg and niece Amy Bourg Sica; and 8 great nieces and 4 great nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Annette McClellan; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Renee and Dora Bourg; and brother-in-law, Jerry (Marilyn) Bourg.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10:00 am at Philadelphia Methodist Church in Heidelberg, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the following organizations:
