Obituary

Luther Ray Dykes 71 of the Big Creek community passed away peacefully at his residence Monday February 5, 2024. He was born Tuesday September 9, 1952, in Jones Co. to JN and Irma Jean (Gatewood)Dykes.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 12:00PM until 2:00PM at Big Creek Baptist Church in Soso, MS. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2:00PM at Big Creek Baptist Church with burial will follow in Big Creek Cemetery in Soso, Mississippi.

Bro. Adam Sloan and Bro. Jimmy Hill will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-477-3797.

Luther Ray was a graduate of West Jones High School Class of 1971. He worked for many years at

the family run business before pursuing his profession as a Brick Mason. Luther Ray was a Master in the

Brick Laying profession and took pride in his work and art design of all types of brick.

He was an avid fisherman, quail hunter, dove hunter, and enjoyed training his bird dogs, along with playing in church and private league softball tournaments for many years. He also enjoyed working in his shop on his old cars and trucks. He was a loving husband, son, brother, stepdad and Pop to the grandkids.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carol Sue Brown Dykes of Laurel, MS; step-sons, Jonathan Hilbun (Chenae) and Jason Hilbun (Karen Blanks); mother, Irma Jean Gatewood Kimble; grandchildren, Holli, Lexi, and Libby Hilbun and Brooke, and Austin Blanks; sisters, Cynthia Hughlett, Sandra Farrish (CD) and Sherry Smith (Stephen) and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.N Dykes; brother, Ricky and Frances Dykes.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Hilbun, Jason Hilbun, Justin Jones, Brian Johnson, CD Farrish, and Stephen Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. Benson Hill, Joe Jefcoat, Rickey Shelby, Brett Eidson, Nelson Hill, Eddie Dykes, and all the Brick Masons who worked with him over the years.
