Judith Ewing Pilgrim passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in Laurel, MS after a short battle with AML leukemia.
Visitation will be at 10am on Monday, March 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 607 W. 5 th Street, Laurel, MS. The memorial service to follow at 11am at the church. A private interment will be at St. John's Episcopal Church Columbarium at a later date.
Judith was born November 14,1939, in Laurel to the late Doris Flowers Ewing and George Ewing. She spent most of her younger years with her grandparents, the late Howard and Addie Flowers.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank Pilgrim, son, Howard
Franklin Pilgrim, daughter, Judith Amanda (Mandy) Nichols, granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth
Haliloglu, grand-daughter, Shanna Dickman Smith, brother, Andy Ewing, mother, Doris Cook and stepfather, Jimmy Cook.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Cannon (Tammy), Susan Kelly (Brian), and June Haliloglu (Sal). Grandchildren, Kellee Cannon, Michael Cannon (Megan), Emily Nichols (Knita), Lindsay Samsel, Stephen Kelly (Alana), Madison Hervey (Seth), and Megan Haliloglu. Great grandchildren, Ashley Gayle, Colton Smith, Cayson Hardisty, Taylor and John Cannon, Lincoln Samsel, Hall Hervey, Jude Cartwright-Nichols, and Lily Hardisty. Brothers, George Ewing (Diane), Ricky Cook (Cindy), and Randy Cook (Angel). Nephews, Tommy Ewing (Johnnie), Tim Ewing (Kim) and niece, Stephanie Connell (Charles). Also, best friends of over 50 years, Roy and Sue Wyrick.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the YWCO and served 3 years as president. She was a member of Gamma Iota, serving two terms as President and was elected "Woman of the Year" twice. While living in Salisbury, Maryland, she was president of the Junior Auxiliary Board and was on the Board of Trustees of Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Operation Christmas Child at First
Baptist Church of Laurel, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
