She was born on July 13, 1936, in Moselle, Mississippi, to Cecil and Marie Hill, and was raised in Ellisville, Mississippi. She was one of four children and grew up alongside her beloved siblings: Thomas "Tom" Hill, Mary Hill Jones, and Daniel "Rusty" Hill. Joyce was a graduate of South Jones High School and Jones County Junior College. On July 30, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Welton Powell, and together they built a wonderful life with their three children.

In 1967, the family relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, where Joyce worked at Forest Hill High School as library and office manager. She became a beloved part of the school community, touching the lives of countless students and staff. Later, when they returned to Ellisville, Joyce continued to serve her community for many years through various church ministries.

Joyce is survived by her beloved children: Art Powell; Lecia Powell Beckman and her husband, Brett; and Scott Powell and his wife, Cara.

She was also a proud grandmother to Lauren Beckman, Katie Powell Gustafson and her husband, Dane, Seth Powell, Emma Powell, and Ella Powell.

In her later years, she found great joy in spending time with her great-grandchildren, Kora and Viggo Gustafson.

Joyce is also survived by her brother, Thomas "Tom" Hill, his wife Jeanell, and their family. Also survived by the families of Daniel "Rusty" Hill and Mary Hill Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Marie Hill; her beloved husband, Welton Powell; her siblings, Daniel "Rusty" Hill and Mary Hill Jones; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Powell; and several dear friends who went before her.

We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with those she loved and that she is surely celebrating in Heaven with a joyful welcome-home party.

Joyce was a woman of great faith and a longtime member of Sandhill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully through the women's ministry, food ministry, and choir even leading the congregation in worship as choir leader for a time. Her whole life, she shared God's love through a gracious, humble, and giving spirit.

Her perpetual loving sweetness, even in her later years as she faced the challenges of dementia, was a remarkable feature of her life. Despite her struggles, she continued to radiate kindness, warmth, and joy a gentle reminder of God's enduring love.

Joyce was deeply loyal, kind, and faithful both to her family and to her Lord. She was so proud of her family, and she always told us so. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend anyone could hope for.

Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and will always love her.

Pallbearers will be Russ Hill, Greg Hill, Stevie Dale Maskew, Steve Thrash, Joel Brogan, and Artie Adams.
