Joan Anelle
Geddie
December 21, 1931 – May 5, 2025
Joan Anelle Geddie, 93, of Ellisville, MS, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, May 5th, 2025. She was born December 21, 1931, in Neshoba County, Deemer, MS.
Joan grew up in Jones County, attending Antioch Grammar School, Ellisville AHS High School, and Business College in Laurel. She married Vern Geddie on February 19, 1950, while he was in the Marine Corps and stationed in Barstow, CA. During their time there, she worked as a stenographer at George Air Base in Victorville, CA, in the Comptroller's office. Fort Irwin Army Base opened near Barstow and sent a bus into Barstow to transport workers, so she transferred there and worked in the transportation office until Vern was discharged; thereafter, they moved to Lake Charles, LA. She worked in the Land Department of Pan American Petroleum in Lake Charles until they moved to Hattiesburg, MS. There, she became a stay-at-home mom and worked part-time at Main Street Baptist Church until she and her husband bought the Western Auto Dealership in Ellisville. They operated the store for 51 years before retiring. She was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Ellisville and a doting grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Vern Geddie; her father, Porter Walters; her mother, Minnie Napier Walters; her grandson, Brandon Geddie; and her sister, Iris Ann Slaydon (Gerald).
Survivors include her son, Steve Geddie (Tracey); her daughter, Pam Nunes; her grandchildren, Nicholas Laviano (Alicia), Leah Laviano (Levi), and Lydia Rose (Samuel); her great-grandchild, Myles Laviano; her brother, Norman Walters (Patsy), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Ellisville, located at 302 E Holly St, Ellisville, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location, with Bro. Greg Spencer officiating. Joan will be laid to rest in Ellisville City Cemetery, Ellisville, Mississippi. Arrangements are being handled by Ellisville Funeral Home.
Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends, who will serve as pallbearers in her honor. An online guestbook is available for signing at www.ellisvillefuneralhome.com.
