Obituary

Jimmy Dale Pitts, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Early Life & Education

Born on May 20, 1949, in Laurel, Mississippi, Jimmy grew up with strong values of service, family, and community. He graduated from Port Allen High School, attended Nicholls State University, and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. During his distinguished military career, Jimmy served in the Vietnam War and completed tours in Taiwan, Okinawa, Columbus AFB, and Eglin AFB. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1989, having earned numerous awards and commendations for his excellence in service and his unwavering dedication to his country.

Family & Legacy

While serving, Jimmy was blessed with two sons whom he adored and took great pride in raising. Later in life, his joy multiplied with the addition of four grandchildren who became the center of his world.

Life After Service

After retiring from the Air Force, Jimmy returned home to Mississippi, fulfilling his lifelong dream of retiring where he grew up. Following a career in the private sector, he settled on his family property, reconnecting with the land and community that meant so much to him.

Passions & Hobbies

Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman, often found hunting, fishing, or sharing stories with friends and family. His love for LSU sports was unmatched, and he could always be seen wearing LSU gear with pride. One of his greatest joys was going to Tiger Stadium with his sons to watch his beloved Tigers play, creating memories they would treasure forever. He also loved LSU baseball, and catching a game at Alex Box Stadium was always a highlight when visiting Michael during the spring — or getting the next free shirt from Michael or Robert after LSU's latest national title. Above all, Jimmy cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends. He wanted to be remembered for the good times, laughter, and love he shared—not for this moment of loss.

Preceded in Death

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Hascell Pitts and Helen Varnadore (Welch); and his siblings Joe, Ruby, Thomas, Chuck, and Douglas.

Survived By

He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Crystal) and Robert (Alicia); his stepdaughter, Starla (Derrick); his grandchildren, Triston, Hayden, Dylan, and Brianna; his sister, Rachel, whom he dearly adored and looked forward to speaking with every morning during their cherished phone calls; his brother, Stanford; and many nieces and nephews. Among them, his nephew Rodney Pitts held a special place in his life, sharing many years as both neighbor and friend.

Final Thoughts

Jimmy's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered every day.

In lieu of flowers or arrangements, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jimmy's honor to Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi.
