George Jefferson Sims, 80, of Ovett, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. He was born Tuesday, September 15, 1942, in Quitman, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ellisville Funeral Home, 1204 B. Ave, Ellisville, Mississippi. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Ellisville with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Brother Ray Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellisville, Mississippi. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (601-477-3797).

Mr. Sims tried to be a loving father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Marie Ishee; father, Vation Sims; mother, Virtie Ivy Sims; brothers, James Vation Jefferson Sims and Vation James Sims; sisters, Lena Marie Greer, Jearldeen Lee, Little Linda, and Jimmy Sims.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cochran Sims; son, George Jefferson Sims, Jr. (Shirlene); daughters, Elizabeth Ishee (Lloyd), and Jayme Lyn Jones (Matthew); brother, Robby Eugene Sims; sisters, Julie Kay Bennett, and Liddie Louise Corbin; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Sims, Damien Ishee, Cris Ishee, Matthew Jones, James Jones, Mickey Jones, Phillip Buse, and Bryan Ishee.
