Obituary

Elbin Colon McLaurin, 95, of Soso, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Born on April 3, 1930, in Jones County, Mississippi, Elbin lived a life full of dedication and service.


Elbin "Mac" was a devoted employee of Mississippi Power, where he worked diligently for 35 years. His commitment extended beyond his professional life as he served as a faithful Deacon at Big Creek Baptist Church for 58 years, a testament to his strong dedication to his faith and family.


Known affectionately as 'Papaw,' Elbin cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Jacqueline 'Jackie' Martin McLaurin, and their children: sons Mike McLaurin (Nancy) and Steve McLaurin (Kay), and daughter Angie Smith (Robert). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jennifer Ishee (Chris), Allison Penny (Scott), Lauren Nicholson (Richard Nichols), Kristen Jones (Anthony). Including honorary grandchildren Brad Dykes, Amanda Corley, and Lindsey Hughes, as well as his great-grandchildren Maddax Nicholson, Kara Ishee, Lily Penny, Sawyer Nicholson, Elise Ishee, Nora Kate Buda, Corbin Penny, Maggie Jane Buda, and Abram Jones. He is also survived by his brother Ken Rayborn (Carol) and sisters Imogene Collins and Glenda Duckworth.


Elbin was preceded in death by his parents, John Colon McLaurin and Elma Harper Flynt, his brothers Rayford McLaurin and Douglas Rayborn, and his sister Averilee Welch.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Big Creek Baptist Church in Soso, Mississippi. Visitation will take place from 12:00PM until 2:00PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00PM. Burial will follow in the Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Paul Roney and Bro. Adam Sloan will officiate the services, with arrangements handled by Ellisville Funeral Home.


Elbin's life was a testament to his faith, dedication, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family has requested bright casual clothing be worn for the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials be made to Big Creek Baptist Church general fund.
