Edith lived a life of service to her Lord and Savior by teaching children in preschool and kindergarten in New Orleans. She faithfully exercised her gift of hospitality by providing housing in her home for countless students of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She found great joy in showing love to young couples by hosting wedding showers, coordinating weddings, and baby showers. This verse seems to represent her life best, "By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News." Ephesians 3:7 NLT
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Carlton Johnston, Jr.; her parents, William Newton Terrell, Sr., and Thelma Day Terrell; her daughter, and son-in-law, Ruth Janez "Jan" Walley and Reverend Jimmy Walley; two sisters, Ruth Brumfield and Inez Barlow; and one brother, William Terrell.
Survivors include two sons, James Nolan "Jim" Johnston (Linda) of McCall Creek and Jonathan Newton "Jon" Johnston (Julie) of Walker, Louisiana; one brother, Jerry Terrell of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, Jared Walley (April) of New Braunfels, Texas, Jason Walley (Wendy) of Ellisville, Jeremy Johnston (Sara) of Orlando, Florida, Jaron Johnston of Clinton, and Zac Johnston of Walker, Louisiana; seven great-grandchildren, Joy Walley, Joshua Walley, Jack Walley, Jacob Walley, Jana Walley, Isaac Johnston, and Levi Johnston.
