Donna Marie Combs Reed of Chatham, Illinois, died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage, following a two year bout with cancer. She was born in Cincinnati, OH, to Francis G. and Nellie M. Lauterwasser Combs. She is survived by her husband, Eric Reed.
Also surviving are one sister, Debra (Chuck) Grantham of MS; two brothers, Douglas Combs of AZ and David (Terri) Combs of NC and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donna was a member of Western Oaks Baptist Church. A believer in Jesus Christ since age 10, she was active in Southern Baptist life. She taught Sunday school, led youth ministry, and facilitated missions education and support. For the past 24 years, Donna served as a pastor's wife, assisting her husband in ministry to churches in New Orleans, metro Chicago and Springfield. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baseball (particularly rooting for the Cincinnati Reds) and loved to travel.
She was a longtime resident of Fort Pierce, FL; and after her marriage, New Orleans, Louisiana; Wheaton, Illinois; and for the past five years, in the Springfield area. She worked as a manager for Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Ft. Pierce, as bookkeeping supervisor for Community Bank of Wheaton-Glen Ellyn, and as a teller at Marine Bank in Chatham.
Visitation was held from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, Monday, October 22, 2018 at Western Oaks Baptist Church.
Funeral services followed at 7:00 pm, Monday, October 22, 2018 at Western Oaks Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Parsons officiating, along with Nate Adams, Sylvan Knobloch, and Van Kicklighter, of the Illinois Baptist State Association.
A graveside service was held at 11:30 am on Friday, October, 26, 2018 with burial following at Moselle Memorial Gardens in Moselle, Mississippi.
