Although he underwent dialysis 3 times weekly at Richton Dialysis Center he enjoyed going into town and eating lunch at Half Shell Oyster House in Hattiesburg then stopping at Java Mo's for a mango smoothie.

In later years, he developed multiple health problems, many associated with agent orange, to which he was exposed during his service in Vietnam. He fought a brave battle against these illnesses for many years.
