"Bud" West, Jr.
July 5, 1936 – March 18, 2025
Coyt Coleman 'Bud' West, Jr., 88, of Hattiesburg, MS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. Born on July 5, 1936, in Jackson, Mississippi, Bud lived a full and cherished life but he lived it his way.
Bud grew up in Ovett, Mississippi and graduated from Jones County High School and Jones County Junior College. He completed his academic career by graduating from Mississippi State University and was a lifelong loyal Bulldog. He had a long, prominent career with Sanderson Farms. When Sanderson Farms decided to expand and build new locations in Mississippi, Texas and Georgia, Bud led the effort to build the live operations at each of these locations. He was recognized for his contributions to the poultry industry with his induction into the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame. Bud was a member of the Ovett Masonic Lodge and Laurel Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Walker West, his father, Coyt C. West, Sr., his mother, Illa Shows West, and his sisters, Ann West Pefferkorn and Patricia 'Pat' West Alman.
Bud is survived by his loving wife, Kay Cook West, and his devoted daughters, Dana West Chamblee (Tim) and Dinah West Dueitt (B.C.). He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Sanford (Josh), Allison Stanley (Bo), and Amber Wright (Ryan), and a cherished great-grandfather to Swayzee Sanford, Jett Sanford, Vera Stanley, Vanna Stanley, and Nora Wright. He is also survived by his sisters, Nell West Harper and Nancy West Dorroh (Jimmy).
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ellisville Funeral Home, located at 1204 B Ave, Ellisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Highway 29 South in Ovett, MS, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Chad Landrum and Bro. Ted Fine will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will include Josh Sanford, Bo Stanley, Ryan Wright, Clint Landrum, Jim Dorroh, Stephen Woodward, Todd Hinton, and Kim Windham, with Kevin Landrum serving as an honorary pallbearer.
