Obituary

Charles Travis Smith, 92, of Ellisville, MS, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at Jones County Rest Home. He was born on August 4, 1931 in Moselle, MS.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12:00PM until 2:00PM at First Baptist Church of Ellisville in 302 E Holly St, Ellisville, MS. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church of Ellisville in Ellisville, MS. Burial will follow in Shelton Baptist Church Cemetery in Moselle, Mississippi. Pastor Greg Spencer will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-477-3797

Charles was a United States Air Force Veteran and member of the American Legion. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Ellisville where he served as a deacon. He was also a Gideon, Mason and Shriner.

He was an electrician by trade prior to serving as administrator of Jones County Rest Home for many years.

Charles was an avid fan of the Jones College Bobcats, supporting all sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dovie Smith, a brother, Carroll Smith, a son, Kent Smith, and two great-granddaughters Ava Harris and Brooklyn Smith.

Charles is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Harrison Smith of Ellisville; his brothers Tommy Smith (Linda) of Ellisville and James DeBoxtel (Elizabeth) of Colorado; his children: David Smith (Martha) of Jonesboro, GA, DD Zumwalt (Ronnie) of Ellisville, Deena Mixon (Ion) of Petal and daughter-in-law, Julie Smith of Ellisville; grandchildren: Allison Holloway, Aaron Zumwalt (Lindsey), Brittani Wemple (Bryan), Paige Alyahyawi (Youssef), Jill Simmons (Matt), Jarrod Smith (Katy), Micah Mixon, Morgan Mixon, Miriam Mixon, Jaclyn Baylis (Chuck) and Sarah McInnis; 17 great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Jones County Rest Home for the loving care provided to Charles during his last days.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Zumwalt, Jarrod Smith, Micah Mixon, Morgan Mixon, Wes Moore and Matt Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerome Mitchell, Billy Browning, David Welch, Donnie Scoggin, Bob Herrington, Chris Robinson and members of his Men's Sunday School Class.
