Obituary

Bobbie Joyce Taylor (89 years old) from Ellisville, MS passed away peacefully on the evening of November 1, 2026, at the Harriet House Assisted Living Facility in Sumrall, MS. Mrs. Bobbie had resided with her son Eric and his wife Maureen in Sumrall, MS since her husband’s passing in June 2025.

Mrs. Bobbie was born in Quitman, MS on January 11, 1937, to Mrs. Hazel Irene Brand and Mr. Noel Nathaniel Atkinson. She graduated from Gardner High School in Laurel, MS in 1954. Mrs. Bobbie married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Lee Taylor, on September 1, 1956. Together, they served the Jones and Jasper County communities in the grocery store business. Mrs. Bobbie not only worked alongside her husband as a co-owner and manager of the stores; she also was a devoted mother to her three children and a proud loving grandmother to 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. Bobbie was very proud of her and her husband’s years of working with grocery customers, especially during the years they co-owned R&T Grocery in Ellisville, MS and with their own store, Taylor’s Real Value, in Heidelberg, MS where they worked until retirement. Mrs. Bobbie always enjoyed reminiscing about customers and employees they became close to during those years. However, her proudest moments were found in telling everyone she encountered about her grandchildren. If you spent more than a few minutes in her presence, you would learn everything about the lives of her grandchildren, and she loved to show off pictures on her phone and tablet as she spoke about their lives and accomplishments. Her love for her grandchildren earned her the beloved and endearing title of “Nana”.

Mrs. Bobbie was a member of County Line Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian wife and mother who kept God close in her heart and looked forward to the day that she would be reunited with her husband and oldest daughter Pam Stroo.

One of the most difficult things is to place value on the love of a mother, and Mrs. Bobbie was the embodiment of motherly love and pride. Even on days when she didn’t feel her best, she always managed to beam with pride when she spoke of her children and grandchildren. Her immeasurable love and devotion to her family will always be treasured.

Mrs. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Hazel Irene Brand and Mr. Noel Nathaniel Atkinson, her husband Tommy Lee Taylor, and her daughter Pamela Lee Stroo and son-in-law Jerry Stroo. She is survived by her children Deidre (Anthony) Taylor, and Eric (Maureen) Taylor; her grandchildren T.J. (LaSha) Stroo, Jessica Taylor, Patrick Taylor, and Jacob Taylor; and her sister Frances Blue.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the countless nurses we have encountered with Gentiva Hospice and a special thank you to Nurse Kim Parker who became a beloved friend to Mrs. Bobbie. We would also like to thank the staff at Harriet House in Sumrall, MS, all of whom went above and beyond to assure Mrs. Bobbie’s comfort over the past few days.

Visitation will be held at Ellisville Funeral Home on Friday November 6, 2026, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. A graveside service will follow at 11:30AM at County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Ovett, MS. Brother Phillip Butler will lead a graveside eulogy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to County Line Baptist Church.
